Most Popular Dating Apps in Britain

  1. Tinder (2.49m)
  2. Hinge (1.51m)
  3. Bumble (1.44m)
  4. Grindr (924k)
  5. Lots of fish (625k)
  6. Squirt (530k)
  7. Badoo (482k)
  8. PURE Connection (299k)
  9. Happn (275k)
  10. Match (209k)

The new data is part of Ofcom’s Online Nations report, which analyzed the number of users on several popular dating apps in the month of May 2023.

While dating apps were once seen as taboo, the report shows that more than one in ten (11 percent) British adults now use these services to find love.

It seems that men are looking for connections more than women, with the total traffic for online dating platforms being 61 percent male and 38 percent female.

Tinder tops the list as the most popular dating app in Britain, reaching an impressive 2.49 million Brits.

This is followed by Hinge (1.51 million users), Bumble (1.44 million users), Grindr (924,000 users) and Plenty of Fish (625,000 users).

However, the data shows that dating app use varies widely across age groups.

“Online dating services reached 20% of 25-34 year olds, the highest reach across all adult age groups,” Ofcom explains in the report.

’18-24 year olds were the second most prominent visitors, with 17% visiting at least one dating service in May 2023.’

For Gen-Z, the numbers show that Hinge is the place to be, with 28 percent of users between 18 and 24 years old. Tinder isn’t far behind, though, with 24 percent of users in this age group (stock image)

Young millennials (ages 25-34) are also enjoying Hinge, with the majority (45 percent) of the app's users falling within this age group (stock image)

Older millennials (34-44 years old) prefer Happn (38 percent) and Plenty of Fish (29 percent), while people between 45 and 54 years old can usually be found on Badoo.

Finally, 55-64 year olds make up 15 percent of users on PURE Hookup, while those over 65 prefer Grindr.

“It is not surprising that OurTime – a dating service for the over 50s – has 63% of users aged over 55,” Ofcom said.

“Though overall, Grindr is the most popular dating service for this age group.”
