The ultimate collection of eighties boy racer Fast Fords is up for sale

If you were a boy racer in the 1980s, this is an auction lot that will make your heart beat faster.

This remarkable selection of the best 1980s Fast Fords is currently for sale from a UK-based owner’s garage, covering everything from the decade’s most desirable Capri to a bank-busting Sierra.

There are 10 Fords in total along with four other much sought after modern classics as part of the Fast Fords & Friends Collection. All 14 cars will be sold in a week-long online auction ending Sunday.

With the massive increase in value of once modestly performing Fords, the auction will raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for the owner.

Ultimate 1980s Fast Ford collection for sale: The owner of all these cars – 10 of which are iconic 1980s Fords – is offering them all to the highest bidders in an online auction running between now and Sunday evening

Each car from a single owner’s collection is offered unreservedly to the highest bidder by Collecting Cars – the UK-based specialist in online motorcycle auctions.

It is one of the finest British collections of 1980s Fast Fords, considered the golden era for the blue oval brand.

The auction house says the owner behind the sale has spent years assembling the outstanding collection of Fast Fords, with a particular focus on the 1980s lightweight and analogue models that have recently become popular on the classic car scene.

This was highlighted in February by the sale of a 1987 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 with just 5,000 miles on it, which was bought for a whopping £596,250 – not only breaking the previous record price by nearly half a million pounds (£463,500). destroyed, but also 30 times the original price some 36 years ago.

The keeper of this collection is said to have spent hours intensively researching the cars before seeking out the “very best of breed” Fast Fords of the generation.

Collecting Cars said it paid “particular attention to those cars with award-winning provenance on the competition circuit,” adding that “a number of these performance heroes come with an impressive amount of trophies.”

Nearly all of the bikes in the single collection have incredibly low mileage for their age and are offered in remarkably original condition, with only a few aftermarket modifications.

One of the highlights is a 46,000-mile 1988 Ford Capri 280 Brooklands, one of only 1,038 built and fresh from a recommissioning service.

Classic car valuation specialists Hagerty UK say the highest value on any of these cars is £41,500, and at the time of publication – with six days of the online auction to go – the highest bid has already been £21,259.

Another hugely desirable model in the line-up is a 54,000-mile 1983 Ford Escort RS1600i - a rare homologation special in original condition - which already has a highest bid of £22,500

A 53,000 mile 1985 Ford Escort RS Turbo, widely regarded as one of the best in the UK with countless trophies to its name, already fetched up to £35,000 in the live auction at the time of publication.

While this car will no doubt sell for a colossal price, it won’t match the record set last August when a Series 1 RS Turbo owned and driven by Princess Diana made an astonishing £650,000 at auction.

And in the wake of the nearly £600,000 sale of the Sierra RS Cosworth RS500 earlier this year, a 1986 non-RS500 variant – recently painstakingly restored – is £37,250 and destined to go much higher, with Hagerty listing the top value of any of these engines at a whopping £102,000.

This 1986 Sierra Cosworth - which has recently been restored - is already priced at £37,250 at online auction at time of publication on Monday. However, it is destined to go much higher, with valuation specialists saying it is worth more than £100,000

A few other cars on offer alongside the Fords fit the same ethos, including a 42,000-mile VW Corrado G60, which boasts a remarkable service history and recent supercharger overhaul, and a 1992 Peugeot 205 CTI 1.6 with an amazingly low 9,543 miles from new.

A pair of limited edition Caterhams round out the collection, ultimately sharing the same focus on lightweight performance and nimble handling as the Fords of the 1980s.

Bid on the Fast Fords & Friends collection ends May 21 at 6:30 p.m.
