Cate Blanchett always looks stunning in the blunt bob she has become famous for
Get edgy with a blunt bob
Master hairstylist from Boston Catherine Alberts38, who created the salon and stylist discovery app DYEtold FEMAIL that the textured bob was the right choice.
The bob is having a major moment right now, with Cate Blanchett, 54, and Kourtney Kardashian, 44, embracing the classic style, but it helps that the hairstyle is still timeless. Moreover, if you have thin hair, your appearance will look much shinier.
Katelyn said: ‘A blunt bob makes thin, fragile hair look fuller and stronger, creating a healthier, more youthful appearance.’
She suggested adding “light texture to the ends for a slightly lived-in effect, which adds natural movement and softness to the final look.”
Frédéric Fekkaiwho founded his iconic eponymous brand, agreed that a textured bob ‘can contribute to a more youthful appearance’ because it ‘adds a modern touch’.
Garrena celebrity stylist in new york city and co-founder of R+Co hair care products, is also a proponent of what he called “bobs with an edge,” where some hair falls over one eye.
Famous stylist Chaz Dean agreed that “short hair has always been associated with a young, youthful look” and suggested “a chin-length bob,” calling it “a great way to visually turn back the clock.”
“Go for a blunt heel or add some airy, long layers for a little more fun,” Chaz advised.
Embrace your natural curls
According to Katelyn, embracing your natural curls makes all the difference.
Halle Berry, 57, Taraji P. Henson, 53, Ginnifer Goodwin, 45, and Nicole Richie, 42, all rocked the youthful style.
“Avoiding heat styling and embracing your natural curl helps keep your hair looking shiny and healthy,” Katelyn told FEMAIL.
Halle Berry, who changes her hair often, rocked her natural curls in a pixie style
“Shorter hair elongates your facial features and draws others’ attention to your eyes,” the hair specialist continued.
She suggested “letting a few curls fall gently on your forehead to enhance the youthful appearance.”
Katelyn said, “Ask your stylist to taper your haircut at the neck to add a fun edge to your style.”
Smooth your hair back into an elegant updo
Frédéric Fekkai, who styled 55-year-old Debra Messing, (photo) thinks: ‘Sleek updos are timeless and classic’
“Nothing is more beautiful and timeless than pulled back hair swept from the face, whether it’s parted in the middle or slicked back,” says Garren, who has worked with Madonna, 65, and Linda Evangelista, 58.
“Pulling the hair back always works, it’s a good choice, especially for more unruly hair, it’s always flattering and very powerful,” Garren continued. ‘Because you don’t want the hair to get too frizzy, it ages you. ‘
Frédéric, who has styled Martha Stewart (82), Hilary Clinton (76), Debra Messing (55), Claudia Schiffer (53) and more, agrees: ‘Sleek updos are timeless and classic.’
Channel your inner French girl with fanciful bangs
Frédéric is a fan of what he called the “French chic look,” with “soft and swept bangs.”
“French curtain bangs add romance and playfulness and contribute to a fresh look,” said the celebrity hairstylist.
Jane Birkin is the ultimate example, with her full bangs and collarbone-length locks.
Another proponent of the French girl edge, Garren said, “Think sharp with bangs that fall over the eyes, yet sophisticated,” citing French fashion editor Carine Roitfeld, 69, as an example, as “her look is class and French style screams.’
The late Jane Birkin (left circa 1960 and right in 2021) is the ultimate example of maintaining great bangs for a French girl, with her full bangs and collarbone-length locks
Parisian fashion editor Carine Roitfeld, 69, is an example of someone embracing the French girlie fringe
Garren explained that it wasn’t just about the cut, but “also about the texture of the hair and the quality of the color.”
‘You can still be cool over 50 if you have your own look. By letting your silver or white hair be the hair color it naturally is, with these cuts and styles, you can really command the room and be beautiful,” Garren said, calling it “a statement look.”
Chaz also loves bangs, telling FEMAIL: ‘Adding bangs, side-swept or blunt, instantly upgrades any hairstyle to a more playful, younger look.
“Something about bangs reminds everyone of a childhood hairstyle, but as an adult it can be sexy and flattering on just about anyone.”
Don’t be afraid to go long
Famous hairstylist Davontae Washingtonwho works with Kim Kardashian, Megan Thee Stallion and Cardi B in Los Angeles, explained that women should not be afraid to keep their hair long, as long as it is healthy.
“Societal norms have told us that longer hairstyles can make you look older, but that’s not the case at all,” says Davontae, who specializes in natural hair, wigs and extensions.
Cher, 77, (left) and Sarah Jessica Parker, 58, (right) offer proof that you don’t need to chop off your locks as you get older
“To embrace an anti-aging hairstyle, the overall factor to look out for is hair health,” Davontae continued.
According to Davontae, “We often keep longer styles, but the ends can look stringy or you’ll see a lot of split ends popping out.”
And just because your hair is longer doesn’t mean you can skip a visit to your hairdresser.
He explained: ‘Healthy, shiny hair really makes a big difference.
‘If you cut away the dead ends you will also feel like your hair is thicker, which is a great way to make your hair look younger overall.’
Just look at Cher, 77, or Sarah Jessica Parker, 58, for proof that you don’t need to cut off your locks as you get older, as long as you keep your hair healthy.
