Green Hills Software announced that it has provided the Trump campaign with “unhackable” communications and computing technologies to “protect election integrity and defend democracy.”
The company’s equipment runs on an operating system subtly called ‘INTEGRITY-178’, which is currently mainly used in military applications. In a somewhat Trumpian statement, it claims it “never fails and cannot be hacked.”
Currently supplying both the FBI and the US government, Green Hills says it has “stepped forward” to prevent further hacking of presidential campaigns, adding that its technology has been offered to the Harris campaign, but it is unclear whether the team has adopted it.
No more vulnerabilities
In a statement, the company said that “all other smartphone operating systems are regularly hacked” and that foreign actors are exploiting these vulnerabilities. However, the INTEGRITY-178 operating system has been certified by the NSA as very robust and capable of protecting high-value resources.
“Only a phone running an operating system that never fails and cannot be hacked can be confident that messages will remain completely confidential. The only phone with this capability is the INTEGRITY-178 phone.” says Green Hills Software.
The Trump campaign was recently targeted by a hack-and-leak campaign allegedly carried out by Iranian state-sponsored cybercriminals, and the 2024 election cycle has been plagued by cyberattacks and online disinformation.
“Hacking by malicious foreign actors has become all too common in recent years and the time has come to take action to safeguard our democracy,” said Dan O’Dowd, CEO of Green Hill.
“The most recent US election campaigns have been victims of hack-and-leak operations. We owe it to our democracy to ensure that our elections are decided by the American people and not by foreign agents intent on harming our country.”
The 2024 elections could be the most targeted yet, with potential hostile interference from Iran, Russia and China reported so far, so security will be a top priority for both teams.
