The top spec OnePlus 12 phone may not be available to everyone

The OnePlus 12 is in a bit of limbo at the moment, having been officially announced but not yet available outside of China – and a new rumor fills in some details for those eagerly awaiting its international release.

According to known tipster @ishanagarwal24 (through Android Police), the OnePlus 12 spec configurations made available outside China will be 12 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage, and 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage.

If true, it means the top-spec configuration – 24GB of RAM and 1TB of internal storage – will be exclusive to China. That will be a bit of a disappointment for power users who were planning to spend a lot on this device.

We expect both the OnePlus 12 and the cheaper OnePlus 12R to launch globally on January 23, 2024, at which point we should get full details on the specification options and regional pricing for these handsets.

What we know so far

We assume that the rest of the OnePlus 12's specs will be the same regardless of which country you buy it from. Those specifications start with a 6.82-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 3168 x 1440, and with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

Under the hood is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor from Qualcomm powering everything, and the phone also packs a 5,400mAh battery that offers 100W wired and 50W wireless charging (versus 5,000mAh on the OnePlus 11).

The rear cameras include a 50MP primary camera, a 48MP ultrawide camera and a 64MP telephoto camera that offers 3x optical zoom. On the front we have a 32 MP camera for taking selfies and making video calls.

We know a lot less about the OnePlus 12R, but it's rumored to use the older Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, and will therefore be more affordable. We will of course bring you all the announcements as they happen on January 23.
