The Today show’s Karl Stefanovic admits live on-air that his mother watches rival channel

Awkward moment Karl Stefanovic admits his own mother Jenny doesn’t watch Today and prefers a rival breakfast show

Karl Stefanovic has a lot of fans, but on Friday morning’s Today show, he joked that his own mother isn’t one of them.

The hit TV host said his mother tunes Jenny into one of the network’s rivals, the ABC, presumably for ABC News Breakfast — instead of watching him on Today.

During a segment about scams and what people should be aware of when receiving dodgy text messages, Karl asked a tech expert what to do if it turned out that his mother asked him for money when he made the confession.

The expert said he would always call his mother first, but then joked that he should “look out for her too” as she could also be a con artist.

Karl then laughed and said, “I’m telling you, you have to watch your mother!”

The tech expert then said he hoped Karl’s mom wasn’t watching the show before Karl told him not to worry about it.

He added, “My mom likes to watch the ABC.”

Karl’s co-host Sarah Abo then scolded him for saying that, adding, “Ahhh Karl, no, she would never betray you.”

While his mother watches the ABC, Karl Sunrise’s true rival is from Channel 7.

Sunrise crushed Today with a 66,000 viewer lead over the five capitals on Shirvington’s debut episode.

By June 19, that lead had increased by another 10,000, bringing 245,192 viewers to Sunrise.
