Is it a bird? Is it an airplane? No, these are the first official images of James Gunn Superman film!
Well, sort of. The first trailer for the DC Cinematic Universe (DCU) movie isn’t here yet – in fact, the first one Superman movie trailer won’t be released publicly until tomorrow (December 19). But to whet our appetites before its arrival, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has given us a taste of what’s to come via a 30-second teaser.
We can’t glean much from the first round of footage from the DCU Chapter One movie. The teaser is filled with breathtaking shots, such as an overhead view of a 3D version of The Daily Planet’s iconic logo that sits atop the building in Metropolis, and crowds of people staring at an unknown object. Among those present in one group is Rachel Brosnahan’s Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, aka Clark Kent/Superman’s perennial love interest.
Only at 0:10 do we catch even a tiny glimpse of Corenswet’s Man of Steel. It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss moment, with the camera closely following Superman as he flies over an icy location. The legendary DC hero’s Fortress of Solitude base is often found in remote areas of the world, such as the Arctic, so this shot is likely from a portion of the film that shows Kent in his home away from home.
The rest of the teaser features similar shots as mentioned above. There are indeed a few more crowd shots, one of which shows people running away from… something. I bet they’re not running from the Kryptonian metahuman, but rather from the main villain who was apparently bullied Superman‘s first image and it will appear in one of the most anticipated new films of 2025.
Anyway, the final clip shows Superman launching himself into the sky to hide among the clouds. I suspect this is part of a montage of his first flight in his iconic blue and red super suit, or to hide from prying eyes. Anyway, you will believe that a man can fly once Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
