The Super Mario Bros. Movie maintained its hold on the domestic box office last weekend.

According to deadlinethe movie starring Chris Pratt pulled in a healthy $58.2 million from viewers during its third weekend of release.

The Nintendo-based film, which may be on track to make $1 billion, also beat The Incredibles 2 to have the best third weekend for an animated film in movie history.

It was also reported that the film had earned a total of $434.3 million from domestic audiences over its run.

The Super Mario Bros. movie, starring Pratt as the title character, also featured Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jack Black in various voice roles.

The film was preceded by a live-action film based on the Mario franchise, which premiered in 1993 and was a commercial failure.

The animated film, directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, debuted on April 5.

While the film has performed well with audiences, it received a decidedly mixed critical reception and currently holds a 59% rating on Rotten tomatoes.

In second place was the horror film Evil Dead Rise, which made $23.5 million during its first weekend of release.

The film premiered earlier on March 5 during the South By Southwest festival.

Warner Bros. head of domestic distribution Jeff Goldstein released a statement expressing his thoughts on what led to the film’s successful launch.

“The filmmakers made a scary movie and the Warner Bros. marketing team hit the nail on the head with bad moms,” he said.

Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant held the third highest position at the box office as it took in $6.28 million last weekend.
