The animated feature film starring Chris Pratt was previously estimated to gross an impressive $87 million in its second weekend of release, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

However, the film, which recently became the biggest movie of 2023, was later reported to have raked in a whopping $92.5 million from domestic moviegoers by Comscore, effectively awarding it the seventh-biggest second weekend in history.

Comscore box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian issued a statement commenting on The Super Mario Bros.’s reign. Movie about the global audience.

“The film is dominating the movie market, redefining the box office potential for a video game movie adaptation and laying the groundwork for a perfect summer movie season,” he said.

If The Super Mario Bros. Movie successfully hits the $1 billion mark, it becomes the third pandemic-era film to reach it, following Spider-Man: No Way Home and Top Gun: Maverick.

Other animated features that have earned more than $1 billion from audiences include Frozen, Minions, and Incredibles 2.

The development of The Super Mario Bros. Movie was first revealed to the public in the mid-2010s.

A live-action movie, also based on the Nintendo video game franchise, was released in 1993 to critical and commercial failure, though it has gained a cult following in recent years.

The feature film’s Pratt-led cast also features the talents of artists such as Charlie Day, Anya Taylor-Joy and Seth Rogen, as well as Jack Black, who voices Bowser.

Although The Super Mario Bros. Movie was initially scheduled to release in December last year, it finally made its debut on April 5.
