The series welcomes the tent’s first ever deaf participant – Tasha from Bristol – as well as student Rowan, 21, who baked his own three-tiered 21st birthday cake, and chemist Josh – a stickler for proper sizing.
A look at the baking talents’ Instagram accounts reveals a plethora of breathtaking creations from their own kitchens.
So who will bring that flair to the famous tent and receive the famous winning apron and a Hollywood handshake?
Ready, set, baking! The Great British Bake Off returns to Channel 4 on Tuesday evening, with a whole new crop of cake makers, including database manager Dana from Essex
Competition: Great British Bake Off, launching at 8pm on Channel 4 on Tuesday 26 September, will see 12 amateur but passionate bakers compete in a desperate bid to win
On the way to the tent: university student Rowan already has a life motto ready to apply to his baking: ‘Go big, or go home’
Student Rowan already has a life motto that he applies to his baking: ‘Go big, or go home’.
The English literature student loves surprising his uni housemates with his elaborate creations for their birthdays and when it came to his own 21st celebration, there was only one person he trusted to bake a three-tiered, twelve-tiered extravaganza : himself.
Rowan has already published his own cookbook, called The Salubrious Student, which he explains is “based on cheap, affordable, accessible ingredients.”
The third-year student loves organizing dinner parties with his uni friends and told his student magazine about this Viva voce that he decided to publish his cookbook when “holiday loneliness” struck during his breaks from college.
“We go from always talking to someone our own age to just being with our parents. It’s especially hard for me as an only child… It was a little passion project of mine.”
Rowan is also a passionate photographer and takes incredible photos of his bakes for his book and his social media.
Like Rowan, database administrator Dana’s passion for baking also started at a young age.
When, at the age of 16, she discovered a gap in her family’s traditional Indian culinary repertoire.
As a self-confessed sloppy baker, Dana avoided stepping on her mother’s toes in the kitchen by taking the bus to her father’s house to satisfy her need to experiment with her baking.
Now that she has her own kitchen, Dana has become the family’s favorite cake maker. She shares photos of her rustic bakes and her proud family on her Instagram account.

Josh, 27, from Leicestershire is a chemist by trade and brings his scientist’s precision and willingness to experiment to the kitchen, taking careful notes on every part of the baking process and perfecting all his techniques for beautiful results.
He likes to take inspiration from old baking books and reinvents classics to give them a modern twist, often by introducing alternative flavors and incorporating seasonal fruits and vegetables from his vegetable garden.
Josh has been playing rugby for his local team for over 15 years, and once a month he bakes lots of goodies to reward his teammates after a tough workout.
There are also a few Bake Off mega-fans in the mix, including Keith, 60, a chartered accountant who apparently owns cookbooks written by five different former Bake Off contestants.
To give himself a challenge, Keith recently returned to the baking books of the early 1970s to try out recipes that were once ‘beyond’ him.
