The Singapore Armed Forces Medical Corps gets EMR lift
Singapore Ministry of Defense (MINDEF).pore has upgraded the EMR system used by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Medical Corps after almost a decade. It has also implemented a new document management solution.
MINDEF/SAF’s Patient Care Enhancement System (PACES) 3 system allows soldiers to access information about their medical history and manage and book their medical appointments.
WHY IT MATTERS
PACES 3 is now running the latest versions of both the Sunrise EMR system and the newly deployed system Altera Opal from Altera Digital Health.
Both systems offer an enhanced user experience and new features for clinical and financial applications, including enhanced workflows, improved system performance, regulatory compliance and improved overall usability.
Altera’s Sunrise system for the military provides primary and acute care capabilities such as referral management; paramedical healthcare, pharmacy and medical imaging; patient portals; and devices specifically designed for military healthcare.
According to Altera, MINDEF/SAF’s Sunrise EMR upgrade is the first in Asia.Pacific.
THE GREATER CONTEXT
PACES 3 was launched in 2016. It was the successor to two generations that operated independently without the ability to connect to external healthcare infrastructures. Now powered by Altera’s Sunrise, it can connect with Singapore’s National electronic health record system and other similar healthcare IT infrastructures over the Internet.
In addition to the MINDEF, Altera also enables interoperability within SingHealth. The current contract with the organization, that was recently extended until 2029, also provides an interface it can use to build its own healthcare IT solutions.
ON THE RECORD
“Military EMRs are by their nature associated with the most stringent security requirements… MINDEF’s EMR helps support the health and readiness of its personnel to serve their country, and because war zones, disaster areas and other environments where military personnel operate are often far from home, the system equipped with advanced mobility features so physicians can access the EHR from remote locations,” said Todd Haebich, EVP of Altera Digital Health APAC.
