The Sims 3 is getting another patch, 10 years since the last update

The new update doesn’t change anything fundamentally The Sims3. In fact it doesn’t change The Sims3 not at all. Instead, the update fixes an issue that prevented players using computers with 12th Gen Intel processors from playing the game. Players with these CPUs would see the game crash at launch. A prominent one in 2022 The Sims3 mud, LazyDuchess, fixed the problem with its own custom patch. Electronic Arts’ update on Tuesday is the official fix for people using the EA App Launcher. Steam players don’t seem to have received the update.

Naturally, The Sims3 community is somewhat hesitant about the patch; they’ve spent more than a decade collecting modded and scripted content, and they’re worried about an official, forced patch messing everything up. One community member has provided a detailed guide to the updateincluding how not to update your game, if you want to prevent that. Mods appear to be safe, said Reddit user CowardlyCandy.

Polygon has reached out to Electronic Arts for comment.
