Blues coach Brad Fittler has steadfastly defended his under-fire star Jarome Luai after the five-eighth posted an apparently offensive Instagram post calling the team’s fans “morons” following Wednesday night’s huge loss to Queensland.

The five-eighth wrote “Chill, All you idiots have work tomorrow morning” accompanied by several emojis of tears of joy with rapper Tupac Shakur’s song “Me Against The World” in the background.

It drew waves of criticism from fans and commentators alike, but Fittler has backed his star to the hilt despite the controversy.

On Thursday, the coach said Luai made the post in response to people who had threatened him with death on social media, according to Channel Nine reporter Zac Bailey.

Luai and his teammates have been roasted by fans and pundits after losing the series in a shock 32-6 capitulation to the Maroons on Wednesday night, in which they were never in the game.

The Penrith star was sent off for headbutting Reece Walsh late in the game and blew kisses to the crowd as he walked off. He struggled to make any impression as the Blues put up one of the state’s worst performances.

Fans slammed Luai for his Instagram post as they lashed out after the one-sided defeat.

“Shouldn’t be allowed to represent NSW again after that,” one wrote.

“Every time I get the urge to say ‘they are hard on him’ he does things like this,” added another.

NSW doesn’t understand Origin. That’s all the evidence you need,” a third wrote.

“To sum up…I need to get online and be ad**k ASAP,” added another.

Blues diehards also slammed Luai in the comments section of a separate Instagram post when they called him to account for his effort in the loss.

“Daly Cherry Evans owns you,” one wrote, referring to the Queensland skipper and halfback.

“Twenty five minutes later and you’ve already missed all your 5 tackles,” a second fan added, while several others told Luai “Walsh owns you” or “Walsh is your father” in references to the Queensland fullback with whom he exchanged headbutts.

Should Jarome Luai ever play for NSW again?

Fox Sports commentator Andrew Voss was stunned by Luai’s words.

“I need help with this,” he tweeted.

“Posting a message on Instagram after a defeat and series loss is not on your to do list.”

2GB commentator Ray Hadley ripped into Luai and told him to grow up.

“While Luai attacked workers last night, he made $30,000. The workers he turned down had to work three to six months to earn that.

The best advice I can give to this young guy who is immensely talented is ‘pull your head in’.

“Someone’s going to have to tap him on the shoulder and say, ‘Jarome, wake up to yourself.’

Get off social media, don’t taunt people with laughing emojis and lean against a goal post after being lapped by Queensland. Just shut up, reset and start again.’

Describing himself as a ‘sore loser’ after the game, Luai said his clash with Walsh would motivate him for the final game of the series after he and the Maroons’ fullback were charged with a second class blow.

“It was just a little bit of passion,” he said.

“I’m also a bit of a sore loser, so I was just disappointed. I just hate losing.

‘I will not be fooled. I am a professional and I know that there is always a line on the field. They won the game, so good for them.’
