A seriously ill Colorado man is in a hospital in Denmark after contracting a supervirus while on a cruise vacation in Europe, his family said.
Guy Matlock, 64, fell seriously ill while celebrating his 37th wedding anniversary last month during a northern European cruise with his wife Adrien.
His daughter Moriah told it KDVR that six days into the 14-day cruise, Guy began experiencing flu-like symptoms that quickly turned into a more serious medical emergency.
“They entered the port as quickly as possible… They discovered that he had influenza A, pneumonia and sepsis, essentially turning into a super virus in his body and starting to attack his major organs,” Moriah said of the ordeal.

Guy went into cardiac arrest and his lungs failed, leaving him with brain damage in a Copenhagen hospital, according to his family.
He is currently breathing with the help of a ventilator and is not fully conscious while his family raises money to move him back to the US.
Guy’s children, who, like their parents, had never been abroad before, flew to Denmark to be with him a week after his medical emergency.
“It’s very isolating in another country, a country where you don’t know the language and where there are so many different social changes happening,” Moriah said.
‘His brain just doesn’t get enough stimulation from Danish society because he only hears the different languages and can’t do math.’

Guy’s wife Adrien remains in Copenhagen for a month after he became ill, while his children were forced to return to Englewood, Colorado.
“No one can explain the sadness that comes from seeing someone so strong in such a not-so-strong condition,” Moriah added.
“Someone who has been all you ever needed in your life and who is unable to even breathe on their own.”
