The Samsung Galaxy Watch FE is no more – but a cheap Samsung smartwatch could still be in the works
The rumors surrounding Samsung’s 2024 smartwatch lineup are far from new, and we’ve been dealing with them since speculation about the Galaxy Watch 7 and a rebooted Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 surfaced earlier this year. While the latest rumor was initially tipped to launch as the ‘Galaxy Watch FE’, a leak has revealed that the rebooted watch won’t adopt this name after all.
In a post shared on ‘Galaxy Watch FE’.
Although the chances of this name appearing now are very slim, Jambor clarified Android Authority that the Galaxy Watch 4 (2024) could have the features of an FE model, but these have not yet been named.
The first rumors about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (2024) and Galaxy Watch 7 were noticed when another reliable ‘leaker’ Roland Quandt (@rquandt) took to X/Twitter, hinting at the possibility of a renewed smartwatch and a 2024 version of the Tab S6.
Don’t be surprised if you see the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 (2024) and Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) released soon, because these things are sure to arrive like it’s 2020/2021 again.February 1, 2024
As it stands now, it looks like Samsung could take its 2021 Galaxy Watch 4 and repackage it as a more budget-friendly model in its smartwatch lineup. This has become common for many tech companies – the Apple Watch SE, for example, uses older parts – although this is a first for Samsung’s smartwatches.
Analysis: A wise move for Samsung
When the Galaxy Watch 4 was released in 2021, we praised it for its lightweight design, fast performance, and new software. Overall, it was positively received and we awarded it four stars.
We were very impressed with how the watch took elements of its virtual rotating bezel precedents from the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 and returned to WearOS, which had been left out of Samsung’s smartwatches for a while. It cemented itself as a popular user smartwatch that is still worn by many three years later.
Like the Apple Watch SE, a refreshed Galaxy Watch 4 could present an opportunity for people who just want a smartwatch with all the basics but at a reasonable price – all with a possible design upgrade and the latest WearOS and One UI 6 compatibility.
We expect the Galaxy Watch 4 (2024), whatever name it will eventually be released under, to hit shelves sometime this year. Stay tuned.
