Samsung seems reluctant to increase the battery capacity of its standard flagships beyond 4,000 mAh. It reached that capacity with the Samsung Galaxy S20 before being reduced for the Galaxy S22 and S23, then returned to 4,000mAh with the Samsung Galaxy S24 – and we could get the same 4,000mAh capacity with the Samsung Galaxy S25 too.
This is according to GalaxyClub (through GSMArena), which claims to have obtained information showing that the nominal battery capacity of the Galaxy S25 will be 3,881 mAh, which should translate to a typical capacity (the latter being what companies typically market when they have their devices) of 4,000mAh.
For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S24 has a nominal capacity of 3,880 mAh, so that value is also almost identical.
As always with leaks, we’re taking this with a grain of salt, especially since the Samsung Galaxy S25 likely won’t land until January 2025, so it’s early to hear anything about battery capacity.
Bigger than it could have been
Still, it’s a credible claim, as Samsung – as noted – seems reluctant to go above 4,000 mAh. Since Samsung has reduced the capacity of some previous generations, there is a risk that the Galaxy S25 will have less than 4,000 mAh.
So in that sense, a 4,000mAh battery would be pretty good news, especially since in our Samsung Galaxy S24 review we were quite happy with the battery, noting that it would last a full day of normal use without any issues.
But it would still be disappointing in some ways not to see improvements here, and a bigger battery would give Samsung fans another reason to upgrade.
Hopefully a new chipset and software optimizations will lead to better battery life in the Samsung Galaxy S25, but early leaks suggest the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (which will likely power the phone in some regions) may consume more power than its predecessor, so that’s a bit worrying.
We probably still have many months before we’ll know for sure, but in the meantime, Samsung has plenty of other devices on the way, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, both of which could arrive as soon as July 10 to land.
