The Samsung Galaxy S25 is tipped to ditch Qualcomm chips and go all-in on Exynos
The rumors that the Samsung Galaxy S25 could say goodbye to Snapdragon chips, with Samsung opting for its own Exynos processors for all models worldwide.
According to somewhat reliable tipster Connor on X With the next generation of Galaxy phones, Samsung could once again see a series of phones with two different chips disappear. The last time Samsung did this was with the Samsung Galaxy S23 phones, all of which used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon silicon. However, the rumored 2025 Galaxy phone could turn that around and see Samsung go all-in with its own in-house designed Exynos chips.
While there is precedent for such a move, take it with a dose of skepticism as Connor noted that the tip is “just a rumor I heard… not my source” without any further explanation.
So currently Samsung phones for 2025 will be: Galaxy Z – Snapdragon Only Galaxy S – Exynos Only Galaxy A – Mediatek & ExynosMarch 1, 2024
In the current Galaxy S24 models, the standard and Plus variants use Exynos chips outside the US and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chips within America. Other countries where Samsung operates often use Exynos chips in the latest Galaxy phones, with the exception of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which gets the Snapdragon part.
The standard view was and still is that Qualcomm chips deliver better performance and power efficiency than their Exynos counterparts, which have reportedly suffered from overheating and battery drain issues in the past.
But the Exynos 2400 chipset used in the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus performed better than many expected, offering significant improvements over the previous Exynos 2200 and chasing the power of the Snapdragon chip; in practical terms, we think you’ll have to really dig around to see much practical performance difference between the two chips.
However, if there’s any weight behind the all-Exynos Galaxy S25 rumor – and for the record, we think this is ambitious – it would be an indication that Samsung believes its internal chip can beat the silicon that powers many of the Galaxy S25 powers. the best Android phones you can buy today.
Alternatively, Samsung could go the Exynos route by building in hardware-specific features that only the chips can perform. But we haven’t heard any rumors or hints to support that.
And it’s still early days for Galaxy S25 rumors, so we’ll just have to wait and see what comes out. But don’t let that stop you from taking a chance on one of our best phones now, because you probably won’t be disappointed.
