The Samsung Galaxy S24 seems almost certain to get satellite comms
The Samsung Galaxy S24 phones are expected to launch sometime in January or February, and it looks like satellite connectivity – similar to that available on the iPhone – will be one of the new features we get.
As reported by SamMobileSamsung CEO Park Yong-in confirmed that the company would start supporting two-way emergency satellite connectivity on its devices next year. The Galaxy S24 wasn’t mentioned by name, but it’s not a big leap to assume that Samsung’s 2024 flagship phones will get these capabilities.
Both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 offer the ability to send emergency signals via satellite networks when there is no cellular connection. The service has been gradually expanded to more and more countries and has already saved lives.
It was actually a surprise that the feature didn’t appear on the Samsung Galaxy S23, as that was certainly the direction the rumors were pointing. This time it seems almost certain that Samsung will launch the feature, but we’ll have to wait until 2024 to know for sure.
The rumors so far
We’ve already heard a lot about what the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra could bring. In line with current trends, we expect these phones to feature many AI-enabled smarts.
Unofficial renders of the phones have also appeared online, suggesting that we won’t see too many changes in terms of the physical appearance of these devices – so a lot of the improvements will be on the inside. There is, however, a switch to titanium for part of the housing.
As usual, it looks like the top-of-the-line Ultra model will get the major upgrades. Several predictions have been made about what kind of rear camera system it could include, and it sounds like it could seriously challenge the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Google Pixel 8 Pro in that area.
Most rumors point to a launch of the Galaxy S24 sometime in January, with a new Samsung Galaxy Ring being unveiled at the same time. If the leaks surrounding these phones continue at the same pace, we’ll know pretty much everything about them by then.
