You may have – understandably – given up hope of seeing a Samsung Galaxy S22 FE. After all, we are now a year on from the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, and there are few rumors about a successor. However, it seems that this phone can still be scheduled.
According to @OreXda (opens in new tab) on Twitter, it’s “almost confirmed” that the Samsung Galaxy S22 FE is coming, but it hasn’t been certified yet, leading them to believe it won’t land at Galaxy Unpacked 2023 on February 1, where we’ll see Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series.
In another tweet (opens in new tab) (through Notebook check (opens in new tab)) they claim we probably won’t see it in the first quarter of this year, which means it might not launch until April. We’d take this with a grain of salt though – the source hasn’t leaked much yet, so we can’t say how accurate or credible they are.
While we haven’t heard much about the Samsung Galaxy S22 FE yet, a report from December suggested it was still on the way and might use a new Exynos 2300 chipset. So @OreXda isn’t alone in thinking this phone can still land.
Analysis: too late to be meaningful
It is certainly possible that the Samsung Galaxy S22 FE will still land, but whether it should is another question.
If it doesn’t launch until April (or later), that’s well over a year after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, and also at least a few months after the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series.
A phone with ‘S22’ in the name launching after the S23 immediately sounds dated, and it will presumably be a lesser device than the standard Samsung Galaxy S22, but could end up costing more as Samsung’s aging flagship is often seen these days will be reduced – and will be all the more so once the Galaxy S23 lands.
So the Samsung Galaxy S22 FE could be extremely hard to sell (just like its predecessor). Samsung might do better renaming it so it at least sounds less dated, or scrap it a few months later in favor of a Samsung Galaxy S23 FE.
As things stand, the Galaxy S22 FE probably needs a surprisingly low price or unexpectedly high-end features to rank among the best Samsung phones.
