The Samsung Galaxy Ring should work with any Android phone, but it doesn’t get iPhone support
We got our first real look at the Samsung Galaxy Ring at the MWC 2024 show this week, but we still don’t have all the details about the upcoming wearable. Now, Samsung CEO Hon Pak has revealed a little more regarding smartphone compatibility.
As reported by CNETPak revealed that Samsung is working to make the Galaxy Ring compatible with a wide range of Android handsets, in addition to Samsung’s own Galaxy series – as it will of course be natively supported by phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24.
iPhone owners will be out of luck, however, as Samsung has no plans to make the Galaxy Ring compatible with Apple’s handsets, in line with the decision it previously made with the Samsung Galaxy Watch 6.
“Ultimately, we hope that our devices are of such a caliber that people will be willing to make the switch,” Pak said, although it seems more likely that iPhone owners will opt for the Oura smart ring or wait for Apple’s instead own efforts.
Sizes matter
Another tidbit from the CNET article is that the Galaxy Ring’s battery capacity changes with the different sizes (there are currently nine sizes in total). That doesn’t tell us much about battery life, but it seems like some variants of the Galaxy Ring may fare better than others in this area.
Please note that we are still at a relatively early stage with the Galaxy Ring: Samsung made it clear at MWC 2024 that the models shown were still prototypes. There’s no official word yet on a date for a full launch, although July seems likely.
In our own hands-on experience with the Galaxy Ring, we heard that sleep tracking would be one of the wearable’s key features, with Samsung keen to appeal to people who want a lightweight, simple, screen-free way to keep tabs on their lives. slumber.
Naturally, all the data the smart ring collects can be accessed via a companion app – but that doesn’t seem like the iPhone. Within a few months we should get full details on Samsung’s new product, including the all-important price it will be sold for.
