The Rock WINS his WWE return by pinning Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania in the tag team main event… but an accidental spear from cousin Roman Reigns could have huge consequences
- The Rock won his first WWE match in over a decade in the main event
- Rock and Reign were a team, but Roman accidentally speared The Rock
- Tomorrow’s main event is now Bloodline Rules, where we will see The Rock again
The Rock got the pin and the victory in his first real match in 11 years, as The Bloodline was left standing at the end of WrestleMania 40 night one.
Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes gambled it all. But now Rollins must defend his world title with a bad knee and Rhodes is challenging for a title under Bloodline rules – meaning the deck is stacked against him.
In his 50s and not having wrestled in over a decade, expectations for The Rock weren’t sky-high. However, after a fairly pedestrian first half of the matchup, the closing stages reminded us of the magic he still has.
These four men were sure they were taking part in a legendary competition as they soaked up the atmosphere at every opportunity.
Roman Reigns and The Rock worked together for the first time, but it didn’t go smoothly
Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins risked a lot and didn’t get the reward they hoped for
Philadelphia ate up the star power they were allowed to enjoy. The Rock, with an unheard of physique at the age of 51, did not shy away from the action. After Roman Reigns built up the tension by starting the match, the crowd was at a fever pitch.
When the play broke down and all four of them went around Lincoln Financial Field stadium together, Rock told the referee, “If you count, you’re going to be fired.” I’m your boss. Do you know De Rots? I’m not worried about it.’
Rock and Rollins fought into the crowd as Reigns and Rhodes took the ramp. When the four men crossed paths at the ring apron, the tide of the match turned when Reigns dropped Rollins on the knee he had injured in the lead-up to WrestleMania.
Naturally, Rock and Reigns worked over Rollins’ knee in great detail. When Rhodes finally got the hot tag, he battled Reigns as Rock desperately recovered on the outside after a Curb Stomp hit.
Reigns took a Curb Stomp and Cross-Rhodes while The Rock was down and looked defeated in every sense, but The Great One rose to knock the referee out of the ring before he could count The Bloodline as a defeat.
Then the match went into overdrive. Recap: Roman Reigns accidentally speared The Rock, Rhodes and Rollins hit stereo Pedigrees on Rock and Reigns before Rhodes Rock smashed The Rock through a table and Reigns speared Rollins through the barricade leaving carnage everywhere.
As Rhodes seemed to have Reigns punch back in the ring, Rock hit him again with the belt and was able to take control. A Rock Bottom and People’s Elbow later, and Rock and Roman won.
A star-studded victory that will stand the test of time at WrestleMania
