The Rock confuses fans with his appearance on WWE’s Netflix debut… as the Hollywood A-lister swears in first 15 minutes, speaks out of character and then has a moment with Roman Reigns

  • Roman Reigns won the battle to be named Chieftain, which pulled The Rock to the fore

The Rock returned to WWE for their debut on Netflix, but many fans were left confused by his actions on the show.

The 52-year-old was last seen in early October last year for a brief cameo at the end of the Bad Blood pay-per-view. His last real appearance on a microphone came the night after WrestleMania last April, where he was the ultimate villain.

The Rock started the night by abandoning all his Final Boss attitude and returning to the babyface he has always enjoyed being in front of the WWE crowd.

New eyes could be the reason, but The Great One essentially gave the corporate speech that many expected Triple H to give longer.

He did manage to land the first invective of the “Netflix era,” much to the delight of some, by calling “bullshit” on his own attempt to manipulate his catchphrase of “finally, The Rock has come back to [insert town]’ to ‘finally WWE is back on Netflix’ – which doesn’t make sense for a debut, but here we go!

He did give a shout out to Cody Rhodes and hugged his main rival from 2024, much to the surprise of many WWE fans.

He also took time to acknowledge Roman Reigns as the original chieftain and said he would be keeping a close eye on the battle for the coveted Samoan ula fala necklace. And boy was he right.

Many fans were hoping that The Brahma Bull would get involved in the clash between Reigns and Solo Sikoa and despite almost every other superstar doing so, The Rock did not – at least not until after the outcome was known.

Rock slowly walked to the ring to meet his tag team partner from WrestleMania 40. He used Heyman’s ula fala to, after a tense staredown before and after, he placed them over Reigns’ neck.

They hugged and The Rock visibly told Reigns he loved him. Then he stood back as the Tribal Chief celebrated with fans and the camera was firmly trained on The Rock, waiting for him to turn on Reigns.

It didn’t happen. His niceties earlier in the night to Rhodes suggest he’s not targeting him for WrestleMania either, so The Rock will miss WrestleMania?

He will be 53 in May and can’t afford to say ‘we’ll do it next year’ for much longer. You have to think that staring down Reigns leads to WrestleMania, but for those expecting the Final Boss tonight, they didn’t get him.
