The rise of resting ‘STINK face’: TikTok video calling out A-list stars like Kylie Jenner who ‘looks like she’s smelling cheese’ goes viral – as aesthetics expert explains why

Have you ever wondered why certain celebrities always have a pursed lip about them – a ‘stinky face’, some might say?

US based TikTok creator Chloe26, asked what procedure caused the “stinky face,” describing it as celebrities looking like they were “smoking something that stinks,” and it quickly went viral, with her commenters begging plastic surgeons to get involved.

Chloe cited Kylie Jenner, 26, and Kim Kardashian, 43, as examples, as her followers debated whether certain cosmetic procedures would lead to the now signature face.

“Kylie Jenner just showed up on my feed and I notice something between her and Kim. I don’t know what facial thing they did,” Chloe mused.

The TikTok creator asked what procedures cause celebrities’ resting faces to have flared nostrils and high cheekbones, creating a pinched lip effect

Commenters were quick to call out Nicola Peltz and Kim Kardashian for having ‘stink faces’

Both Kendall Jenner and Chrissy Teigen were accused of having a stinky face on TikTok

“I can’t do the face, but it’s their resting face,” Chloe announced, before trying to get the expression perfect.

Freak out! What a lip flip entails – and how it creates the celebrity ‘stink face’

  • According to the American Association of Plastic SurgeonsTikTok is behind the lip-flip craze
  • Lip flips create a fuller look without the use of filler
  • Instead, doctors use Botox to relax a muscle in the upper lip, making the upper lip look much fuller
  • Patients do not need to receive injections and the ‘flip’ often looks more natural than a crowded lip
  • If treatment is not tailored to a patient’s face, the smile may change shape or develop a heavy upper lip

‘What stinks?’ Chloe asked her followers in the caption, and they were quick to give their thoughts, citing Kylie and Nicola Peltz, 28, as two examples of the high cheekbone and pursed lip.

“I ALWAYS say it looks like Kylie smells cheese!!!” admitted one commenter.

“It’s called ‘pillow face,'” one person commented, referring to what happens when someone gets too much filler.

“YES, it’s like their nostrils are always wide open,” one follower agreed.

“I think it’s from a lip lift,” thought one analyst, while another surmised, “It’s from cheek filler and lip filler; they both migrate and then the nasolabial lines become exaggerated.”

“I need a plastic surgeon to please explain this duet,” one curious commenter begged.

Chloe then responded to a TikTok user who accused her of having the dreaded “stink face.”

One commenter wrote: ‘I’m not trying to be rude, I’m just curious, but did you get any work done? And if so, can you explain what you have done or are doing.’

Chloe responded on TikTok by saying she only has a ‘ml (milliliter) of lip filler’ before explaining that she only has Botox in her masticatory muscles to treat TMJ, or inflammation in the jaw, which she claimed makes no aesthetic difference made.

New York City facial plastic surgeon Dr. Konstantin Vasyukevich the aforementioned ‘stinky face’ is ‘the result of a filler injection into the nasolabial folds.’

“People with naturally full cheeks will always have these folds on the deeper side,” the double-certified doctor said, likening it to a hill next to a valley. When these celebrities smile on the red carpet, the folds look even deeper, but when filler is injected, the area looks shallow.

“If the nasolabial folds appear too shallow for someone with full cheeks, the smile can look a little unnatural,” Dr. continued. Konstantin.

“I ALWAYS say it looks like Kylie smells cheese!!!” one commenter said of the reality star

On TikTok, commenters accused the original creator of having a similar face, though she explained that she doesn’t have the same frozen face

People on social media shared what plastic surgery procedures they thought created the face, including a lip lift and fillers

Aesthetics specialist Dr. Rahi Sarbazihafrom Beverly Hills, California, told DailyMail.com that “stink face” is an “aesthetic trend that can be traced back to techniques like the lip flip, a delicate process in which careful Botox injections are strategically placed above the lip,” confirming what some had suspected.

“This method causes muscle relaxation, which shortens the distance between the nose and upper lip and creates the illusion of a subtly enlarged upper lip,” according to the double sign qualified doctor explained.

Beverly Hills-based aesthetic specialist Dr. Rahi explained how the celebrity lip flip causes a ‘stinky face’

“The effects of relaxed muscles can inadvertently trigger compensatory efforts in surrounding areas, potentially causing adjacent facial features, such as the nose, to reshape,” Dr. clarified. Rahi.

Because these women reshape their lips, the rest of their faces often look different as well.

The Botox lip flip is hugely popular with reality stars and celebrities, and has even trickled down to TikTok, where influencers regularly show off their own lip flips.

Dr. Rahi explained, “Whether intentional or unintentional, aesthetic trends are often shaped by celebrities and can manifest as a reflection of a desire to break away from norms, allowing individuals to shape their appearance as an art form.”

Dr. However, Rahi explained that “achieving the ‘stinky nose’ look was not typically the primary goal in terms of regular aesthetic enhancements,” and that this was not done intentionally.

“The approach generally leans toward refining natural beauty, focusing on nuanced adjustments that compliment a person’s distinctive features,” said Dr. Rahi.

Instead, some women get the flared nostril aesthetic because their relaxed muscles make their face look very different — and in some cases, like they smell something awful.
