The ridiculous price of Southern-style chicken at Aldi has put shoppers off, but there’s an explanation
Ridiculous price on a pack of Southern-style chicken at Aldi scares off shoppers — but there’s a simple explanation
- Shopper finds that 1.2 kg of chicken costs $248.89
- It was accidentally weighed at 28.5 kg
- Employees corrected the error as soon as they noticed it
An Aldi shopper couldn’t believe it when they saw a chicken on sale for a triple-digit price this week.
The customer found 1.2kg of southern fried chicken priced at $248.89 in a shop somewhere in Australia.
The chicken was reduced to clear about $28 from its original $313.42 price — but it didn’t exactly fly off the shelves.

Aldi is known for its low prices, which is what made the chicken price tag so shocking
Eagle-eyed members of the Aldi buyers’ group in which the image was posted pointed out that the chicken had accidentally weighed in at 28.5kg – which easily explains the insane price tag.
“Had a little laugh today…they only had one job,” the customer wrote, before adding that they told staff about the mistake while they were still in the store.
The product’s label was immediately updated with the correct weight.
“Not Aldi today, not today,” the shopper joked.
“I thought it was a bit funny, the staff thought it was funny too.”
Many Australians joked that the price was proof that inflation is out of control.
“Each week the groceries just keep going up and up, but that’s a giant leap,” one wrote.
“Yuck!” Aldi used to be so affordable,” added another.
But while this incident had a simple explanation, even shoppers at the discount store recently reported feeling like someone found a basket of eight items costing $45.
