The pair had been close friends since they starred in the 1978 musical Grease together, but John was nowhere to be seen during celebrity tributes to the late superstar, having neither sent a video tribute nor attended in person.
The American actor may have stayed away due to tensions with Olivia’s husband, John Easterling, according to a new report.
Women’s Day has claimed that Travolta and Easterling “were rumored to have had a strained relationship” and “disagree”.
This could explain why Travolta avoided the occasion, in which Easterling took the stage to pay a long and moving tribute to his late wife.

The American actor may have stayed away due to tensions with Olivia’s husband, John Easterling (left), according to a new report.
“Travolta’s close relationship with Olivia, which he spoke about frequently and publicly, may not have gone down well with her husband,” a source alleged.
Easterling was said to have been uncomfortable with Travolta’s loving tributes to Olivia after her death, which he shared on social media.
“Put yourself in their shoes,” the alleged source said, adding that it was “the last straw.” [Easterling’s] back’.
Travolta shared a special tribute to Newton-John on his Instagram Stories on what would have been his 74th birthday last year.

Easterling was said to have been uncomfortable with Travolta’s loving tributes to Olivia after her death, which he shared on social media.
Shortly after her sudden death, John shared a touching post on her Instagram, writing that her “shock was incredible.”
The Grease actor, 69, recalled his former co-star and close friend wishing him a happy birthday.
The actress passed away on August 8, 2022, after her breast cancer returned in 2017 at stage four. Her death sparked a wave of tributes as people around the world mourned her death.
The Saturday Night Fever star uploaded a photo of himself and Olivia from their iconic roles as Danny and Sandy from the 1978 musical film Grease.
He wrote, “Happy birthday my Olivia,” in a caption below the photo he shared on his Instagram story.
Shortly after Olivia’s sudden death, John posted a tribute to his main Instagram page as he mourned her passing.

The two actors were seen together while attending a Grease party.
He had written: ‘My dearest Olivia, you made our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you a lot.’
We’ll see each other on the road and we’ll all be together again. Yours from the moment I saw you and forever,’ she wrote, adding: ‘Your Danny, your John!’

Easterling, who is the founder and president of the Amazon Herb Company, met Newton-John in the mid-’90s.

John and Olivia were seen together at the Grease 40th anniversary celebration in 2018.
