The deciding factor in Leny Yoro’s decision to join Manchester United was revealed when Real Madrid explained why they had ended their search for the talented youngster, sources have reported.
Yoro opted to join Erik ten Hag’s project after a number of top European clubs had made an appearance in the summer, with Madrid being the direct competitor for United’s transfer ambitions.
The Frenchman eventually signed a five-year deal with an option for a further 12 months after United successfully negotiated a £52million transfer fee with Lille, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS team also beginning to show their transfer prowess.
Madrid were looking for a new central defender after winning the Champions League. Former central defender Nacho had decided to leave the club after his contract expired.
The reigning LaLiga and European champions offered Yoro a salary package of £2.5m per season, while United agreed a deal on personal terms that was three times higher than the offer, as revealed by Brand.

Yoro is yet to make his competitive debut for United after picking up an injury in pre-season
The 13-time Premier League champions agreed a total fee of £8.1million per year with Yoro, while Madrid decided not to increase their offer and instead began exploring other options.
United manager Ten Hag was keen to integrate the emerging talent into his team, with Yoro making his friendly debut against Rangers after just a few days of pre-season training.
He later left for America with the rest of the team for further friendly encounters, until he was seriously injured.
Yoro suffered a serious metatarsal injury during United’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal
United manager Erik ten Hag was keen to bring Yoro to Old Trafford in a summer of transfers
To his great dismay, he was injured while undergoing surgery on his metatarsal against Arsenal in the United States and will hopefully be out for just three months.
Madrid later indicated they were unwilling to spend money on players who did not fit the profile of Carlo Ancelotti’s team, which strengthened its squad with the arrival of superstar Kylian Mbappé.
Meanwhile, Yoro’s injury forced United to bring in another defender in Matthijs de Ligt, who made his first Premier League start in the 3-0 defeat to rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The Dutch defender is currently on international duty with the Netherlands and made headlines on Sunday morning after describing his match against France last weekend as ‘f****d’.
