The Project’s Sarah Harris wells up as she braves the coldest Melbourne morning of the year: ‘I can’t feel my toes!’

Sarah Harris braved the icy temperatures in Melbourne on Thursday as she stepped outside on what has been the coldest day of the year so far.

The 42-year-old presenter of The Project gave a glimpse into her freezing morning commute on Instagram, sharing a photo of herself walking through the city.

In the selfie, Sarah’s cheeks were bright red from the icy temperatures, while her eyes also appeared to be watering from the cold.

She wrapped up warm against the cold temperatures in a gray hoodie and a stylish gray jacket, while shielding her face with a black baseball cap.

The TV presenter appeared unfazed by the cold in the snap, captioning her post: ‘9.21am I can’t feel my toes Melbourne.’

The project’s official Instagram account posted the following comment: ‘I’ll turn on the heating.’

Melbourne experienced its coldest morning of the year so far on Thursday, with temperatures below freezing and a shocking chill.

In the city centre the temperature was just above 1 degree, but in the early morning hours it felt cold, down to -2.7 degrees.

Residents in rural areas including Horsham, Bendigo, the Mornington Peninsula and Geelong faced sub-zero temperatures.

The coldest temperature for miles around was recorded at Coldstream, where temperatures dropped to -2C overnight.

If the low temperatures persist, Melbourne could experience the coldest week the city has experienced in more than a decade.

If the temperature at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport drops below -2.5C (the current minimum is -1C), it would be the coldest temperature recorded since 1986.

Sky News Australia meteorologist Rob Sharpe said of the icy temperatures: “This morning was the coldest in two years (for Melbourne).”

‘We expect a similar cold temperature tomorrow morning, but it won’t be as cold at night as the clouds gather.’

Sydney is also expected to continue to see daily showers, with the city having already received more than a year’s worth of rain in the first half of 2024.
