Steve Price has opened up about his historic drug arrest, admitting he faced justice when he was caught smoking marijuana as a young man.
The right-wing pundit was appearing on The Project when the topic of legalizing recreational cannabis came up.
The 68-year-old was quick to insist that marijuana legalization “will cause more people to sit around smoking weed on the dole.”

But in vilifying the drug, which is legal in several countries around the world, Price admitted he had a confession to make.
I will make a concession. When I was young, I was arrested,’ he said, adding that he had first publicly disclosed the arrest in his Herald Sun column last year.
“I had a spine about a year ago and my mom didn’t know about it and all of a sudden I got in big trouble with her,” she said.

“Everyone was smoking weed which was pretty mild and I didn’t like it. I don’t use it now and I didn’t continue using it.
“That’s a shame on me, but if I go ahead with the argument that we shouldn’t do it, then I have to make the confession.”
Steve last year revealed that he was arrested by police and charged with drug possession for smoking marijuana some 40 years ago.

The conservative-leaning panelist revealed the startling details when he voiced his opposition to a national push by the Greens to legalize recreational cannabis.
The campaign, led by Green state MP and doctor Tim Read, is also calling on the government to decriminalize small amounts of other drugs.
Price claimed that he wanted to tell his story about his arrest to show that he was not a “raging hypocrite” when it came to criticizing the Greens’ drive.
“I hate what drugs do to people, but I would be a raging hypocrite not to admit what happened in the dim and dark past when I was in my early 20s,” he wrote in The Herald Sun.

I suppose somewhere in the archive, in the bowels of the South Australia Police Department, there will be a folder with my name on it.
Price, who was still working as a newspaper journalist, was caught by police smoking a joint with two other people inside a car registered to his name.
Officers discovered marijuana “in a plastic bag in the glove compartment” in Price’s vehicle, which was parked outside a hotel that was hosting a work function.

Price was arrested, charged with drug possession and had to face the South Australian Magistrates Court over the matter.
He said in his Herald Sun column that he was able to “intercept the warrant with the charges and the court date mailed to my parents’ house”, meaning his mother had no idea.
Price explained that he only received a fine and did not receive any other sanctions.
‘Can you imagine if he showed up today on drug charges? The internet would break,” she added.
