The Project hosts stunned as Amy Remeikis makes snarky Father’s Day comment about ‘crap dads’
The Project hosts were left speechless after Amy Remeikis made a bizarre comment about “bad dads” during her Father’s Day broadcast.
The Guardian’s political editor was a guest on Channel Ten’s current affairs program on Sunday night to discuss Australia’s sky-high rents, amid a housing shortage and cost-of-living crisis.
At the end of the interview with presenters Hamish Macdonald and Sarah Harris, Ms Remeikis concluded by celebrating Father’s Day in an unusual way.
“Happy Father’s Day to all the non-bad dads and to all the mothers and everyone who stood up for the bad dads,” she said.
The left-wing commentator’s bizarre remark left the bewildered presenter speechless and an awkward silence fell. Harris appeared stunned and grinned.
“Okay, some more news,” Macdonald finally replied as he quickly moved on to the next item.
The studio audience laughed and the awkward moment has since gone viral on social media.
Dozens of viewers responded to X and questioned the confusing reference after the program put the clip online. The clip has since been removed.

“What was that little complaint about shitty dads?” one viewer wondered.
‘Spending more time with the hairdryer instead of being mean might be a better career move.’
Others strongly opposed the comment and felt it should not have been broadcast.
“Happy Father’s Day to the non-rotten dads. Are you serious? What a sh*tty thing to say,” wrote another viewer.
Just say ‘Happy Father’s Day’ or don’t.
But some viewers could see the humor in it.
“Just watched Amy Remeikis talk about capitalism and bad dads on Father’s Day. I can’t imagine an equivalent on British TV,” the person wrote.
“Lol crap dads,” said someone else.

Single parents raising their children alone also defended Remeikis.
“Just saw you on The Project. As a mom who plays both roles. THANK YOU!” wrote one mom.
Another viewer wrote: ‘I just saw the end of your spot on The Project. I really love your work!’
Ms Remeikis provides political commentary on various television and radio programs and is a frequent guest on ABC’s Insider program.
Ms Remeikis explained that the government should be concerned about tenants facing hardship at the next federal election as the housing crisis is only getting worse.
She said Australians were being left out of the housing market and criticised failed housing policies which have made it increasingly unaffordable to buy a home.
