The Southeastern Conference has imposed another six-figure fine on fans storming the field, this time against LSU with a $250,000 fine.

The league announced the beautiful Sunday after LSU fans stormed the field to celebrate a win over No. 15 Mississippi. The Rebels were in seventh place at the time.

The 45-20 win put LSU back at number 18, but it proved to be expensive for LSU.

It is LSU’s third violation of the league’s access to competition policy. LSU was last fined for a violation after its 2018 football game against Georgia.

Tennessee was fined $100,000 for celebrating a win over No. 6 Alabama a week earlier. Fans raised the uprooted goal posts in the Tennessee River.

The fine money will be deposited into the SEC Post-Graduate Scholarship Fund.

Fines start at $50,000 for a first violation, $100,000 for a second violation, and $250,000 for each subsequent violation.

Volunteer basketball coach Bruce Pearl later tweeted that he thought the fine was “worth every penny.”

The penalty comes as LSU prepares for its biggest game in several seasons against rival Alabama.

LSU was again included in the AP Top 25 on Sunday, presented by Regions Bank at number 18. The Tigers and No. 6 Crimson Tide are out next week, as is customary before the SEC West powers play against each other.

This will be the 30th time Alabama and LSU will face both ranked, most of all SEC teams and fourth of all rivalries, according to sports-reference.com.

For most of the 2000s, Alabama and LSU were arguably the dominant rivalry in college football. They went 14 consecutive meetings (2007-19) where they played with both ranked. That’s the third longest streak in any rivalry, behind Florida-Tennessee’s 19 straight (1985-2007) and Florida-Florida State’s 16 straight years (1990-2003).

The run ended in 2020 for Alabama and LSU, the year after the Tigers and Tide won a 1 vs. Played 2 game in Tuscaloosa.

On November 5, they can start a new streak again.

Fines start at $50,000 for a first violation, $100,000 for a second violation, and $250,000 for each subsequent violation. Volunteer basketball coach Bruce Pearl later tweeted that he thought the fine was ‘worth every penny’
