If you’re on the fence about which PlayStation 5 to buy and ultimately decided against the PS5 Pro – either because of the price tag or because you couldn’t get your hands on the extra-gorgeous 30th Anniversary Edition in time – then the slimmed-down version PS5 Digital Edition is for sale at both Amazon And Goal for $399.99 (was $449.99) ahead of Prime Day in October, while the standard PS5 with disc drive is available for $449.99 (was $499.99). (You have one Amazon Prime or Target circle (membership to take advantage of these deals.) While $50 isn’t the steepest discount, that’s the lowest price of any new PS5 currently available, making it a great entry point and still giving you the full catalog of titles for now can play and the foreseen future.
This PlayStation 5 is the sleeker redesign that replaced the original model this time last year, and it came with a $50 price increase for the digital edition. This Prime Day/Target Circle Week sale in early October brings the price of admission back to under $400. Keep in mind that while the Digital Edition doesn’t have a disc drive (sorry, Blu-rays can’t be played out of the box), you can later can purchase a disk drive separately as an attachment for $79.99 starting Amazon and other retailers.
Now’s a great time to pick up a PlayStation 5, which has a library of incredible games and a robust accessory ecosystem. And we wouldn’t worry too much about a PlayStation 6 anytime soon – in all likelihood, that won’t be for many years.
