The Penguin’s first trailer puts Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobblepot on the criminal warpath in the Batman TV spinoff

The first teaser for The penguina TV spin-off from The hitterhas been revealed – and it teases the tense gang war that has broken out in Gotham City.

Colin Farrell, who played Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin in the 2022 DC superhero film, reprises his role as the badass crime lord in the Max limited series due out in late 2024. The iconic character’s show is the first of two TV projects that will flesh out the Matt Reeves-developed cinematic universe, starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/the legendary vigilante known as Batman.

The teaser doesn’t reveal much, but shows Farrell’s Cobblepot trying to turn himself into Gotham’s new kingpin. After the death of the all-powerful crime lord Carmine Falcone – he was murdered by The Riddler – in The hitterA power vacuum has opened on the streets of Gotham, and Cobblepot isn’t waiting for anyone to fill the void.

As the trailer reveals, Cobblepot wants to position himself as the next Rex Calabrese, a former Gotham mob boss who was loved by everyone involved in the city’s criminal underworld. However, it’s clear that things won’t go well in the miniseries, as Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), Carmine’s heartbroken but determined daughter, vows to fight Cobblepot for control of Gotham’s criminal underbelly. I don’t know about you, but I already think this will be one of the best Max shows we’ve seen in a long time.

The penguin will consist of eight episodes and according to a press release from Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) will “continue” it. The hitter epic crime saga that filmmaker Matt Reeves started with Warner Bros.’ global blockbuster. Pictures The hitter and revolves around the character played by Farrell in the film.”

Joining Farrell on the cast list are Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen.

The Penguin will be released this fall (that’s fall for non-US residents of the Northern Hemisphere, and spring for anyone living south of the equator). It will air exclusively on Max in the US and will likely launch on Sky Atlantic in the UK and Binge/Foxtel in Australia.
