The OnePlus 12 leak suggests it will backfire a controversial design choice
A series of new renders for the upcoming OnePlus 12 have recently surfaced, indicating that the company may be replacing a controversial camera module.
If you don’t know the story, a earlier leak of the OnePlus 12 In July, the reversing camera system was found to have a rectangular, stainless steel “bump” under the two lenses. Online reactions to this steel plate have been mixed to say the least. But, according to a recent MySmartPrice According to the report, OnePlus is opting for a more familiar design for the camera island on its upcoming flagship phone. It will be, if 9to5Google it says: “less ugly” looking for some.
The renders show that the three OnePlus 12 lenses will be housed in a round module with a blank space at the bottom right. The stainless steel part is gone. It is unknown what this fourth space will contain. At first we thought that it could fit the flash lamp of the smartphone. After all, there it is on the OnePlus 11.
However, if you look closely at the renders, the lamp is actually in the top left corner. The hole could be where the rumored 64MP periscope lens will be. Of course we can’t say that with certainty.

Small adjustments
In addition to the camera settings changes, the MySmartPrice report mentions another design tweak. The Hasselblad logo on the module has been replaced by the brand’s stylized ‘H’ and moved to the far left.
Other than that, the phone looks identical to previous renders. The phone display has a ‘perforation cutout’ in the middle for the selfie lens. In addition, the power and alert sliders are on the right side of the device “while the volume keys are on the left”.
This information comes from well-known industry insider OnLeaks, who claims that these images are “based on pre-production (units)”. This means that these photos show a good approximation of what the final design could look like.
Okay #FutureSquad… Back in July I gave you the very first and early look at the highly anticipated #OnePlus12. Since then it seems that #OnePlus has tweaked the rear camera configuration and today I’m back with updated renders taken from photos of pre-production units.… pic.twitter.com/Pb7W1fdgLJSeptember 6, 2023
As with any leak, you should take this information with a grain of salt. Things can always change at the last minute. Maybe OnePlus will change its mind for a second time and return to the steel hump.
The launch date for the OnePlus 12 line is also unknown, although rumors suggest that the phone will launch in China for the first time in December. A global rollout will reportedly take place in January or February with a price tag of $699. It is said that the mobile device will be available in black and sandstone.
