The Office’s Rainn Wilson catches fan watching show next to him on flight

None other than Rainn Wilson, who played favorite character Dwight Schrute on the popular sitcom, caught a man on The Office on a flight.

Wilson, 57, secretly filmed the man, poking fun at how he had no idea he was sitting next to one of the show’s stars.

“If the person sitting next to you has no idea who you are…” wrote the actor, who shared the hilarious clip on Instagram.

Wilson’s Dwight appeared on screen for the man several times as he captured the once in a lifetime moment.

The Office aired for nine seasons on NBC from 2005 to 2013 and turned the likes of Steve Carell and John Krasinski into household names.

It follows the office life of Dunder Mifflin employees who work at the Scranton, Pennsylvania-based branch of the fictional paper company.

Wilson’s character Dwight Schrute is not only a newspaper vendor, but also a devoted assistant to regional manager Michael Scott (Carell).

SNL alum Greg Daniels adapted the series from the UK version created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, but given a lighter feel.

Shot in a single-camera mockumentary style, the film features the comedic writing talents of Mindy Kaling, BJ Novak, and Paul Lieberstein.

Wilson, Carell, Krasinski, Novak and actress Jenna Fischer are announced as the main cast of the show, but also features appearances from Kaling, Lieberstein, Ellie Kemper, Ed Helms and Angela Kinsey, among others.

The series finale, which received critical acclaim, originally aired on May 16, 2013 and was watched by an estimated 5.69 million viewers.

Despite going off the air a decade ago, The Office was the most-watched show on Netflix during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

It grossed a total of 57.1 billion minutes of viewing, making it the highest-streamed show in the US according to Nielsen.

But it moved exclusively to NBC’s streaming service Peacock in January 2021.

The licensing deal reportedly cost $500 million.

Reportedly soon after the move, The Office actually earned more viewers on Peacock than when it was on Netflix and drove more traffic to the service’s other programming.

“We see people who watch The Office on Peacock watch a lot of our other comedies,” NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell said in January 2021.

It was also teased at the time that creator Greg Daniels said there could be a reunion in the future, but there was no set plan.

He did reveal that many cast members are “more open to it” now that the show is owned exclusively by NBC.

It would be convenient January 2023 that The Office would leave Netflix UK.
