The general search for ‘builder jobs Australia’ was up 87 per cent in the year to July 2023, but more specific trade searches were even higher.

Searches for ‘painter jobs Australia’ increased by a whopping 158 percent, ‘plasterer jobs Australia’ increased by 157 percent and the number of people looking for roofing jobs Down Under increased by 130 percent.

Mr Papalia led an industry delegation to Britain and Ireland, seeking skilled tradesmen and civil engineers to help fill 31,000 vacancies across the state, promising salaries and reduced bills.

He made much of the quality of life factors, saying: ‘Most of the population of Perth live a short drive from the beach, where parking is free.

There are no tolls on our roads. We don’t have anything close to what would be considered a traffic jam by UK standards.’

The minister also joked about how many Britons moved to the other side of the world in the first place.

“Many of our ancestors were sent to Australia from the UK as convicts. Now it would be a crime not to take the step,” he said.

The benefits of moving to Down Under from the UK became apparent in April when an Englishwoman arriving in Australia revealed she had saved nearly $100,000 in five years.

Dom, 23, from a small town near Manchester, flew to Australia in 2018 to travel for a few months, but fell in love with the way of life and has committed to staying as long as possible.

She works 60 hours a week at solar farms and saves $1,500 each week, meaning she’s on track to have $100,000 in savings by the end of 2023.

“I remember dreaming of traveling to the other side of the world, I always wanted to experience life to the fullest and get away from my little hometown,” she told Daily Mail Australia.
