Steve Cooper paid a moving tribute to young Nottingham Forest fan Caiden Storry, who was left distraught after failing to complete a rendition of The Last Post at the City Ground on Saturday.

Caiden, who is 16, played the tune on trumpet as part of the Forest Remembrance Day ceremony but was unable to finish it.

He was consoled by players from Forest and Aston Villa shortly before kick-off and was clearly upset when Cooper gave him a hug on the touchline and some words of encouragement.

Now Forest plan to invite Caiden to their training ground to meet the players.

Cooper said: “I have a 15-year-old boy and I love it when he shows confidence to do things because it’s not always easy in the era we live in.

‘For a 16-year-old boy who loves to be in the middle and does it brilliantly, he should be very proud, and we are proud. He said to me, ‘I’m sorry’ and I said, ‘For what? Everyone is really proud of you.”

‘To see how both players reacted, because they have to perform and know what it is like, was a very important moment. I thought everyone came together in what is always a poignant moment.

“I was able to talk to him and we will try to contact him and get him to the training ground. I want him to meet the players so he knows how good he was.’
