West Ham boss David Moyes has revealed he could have made a return to Everton

He said: ‘When I was offered the job at West Ham, I had actually been in Germany with (Farhad) Moshiri to take the job at Everton. It was absolutely done until my phone battery died during the meeting.

‘The phone rang in the middle of the meeting with Everton: it was David Sullivan, owner of West Ham. I had to say, “I can’t talk right now.”

‘Carlo Ancelotti was sacked that night and (Everton) changed course and took him with them.

‘I was supposed to sign the papers the day before and that’s why they brought Carlo along. Sullivan had called me to take the job at West Ham and I thought, ‘Absolutely!’

Di Canio’s return delights West Ham fans
