THE NOTEBOOK: Thousands remain for sit-in Glazer protest, Man United’s phone app struggles with their slowest Premier League start and Rashford’s return to the left boosts the Red Devils

Manchester United put on a thrilling battle, securing a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were stunned in the early stages when Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Boly gave Forest a 2-0 lead in the first four minutes.

Christian Eriksen pulled one more back in the first half, before Casemiro leveled Erik ten Hag’s side after the break.

Forest were reduced to 10 men when captain Joe Worrall was sent off for bringing down Bruno Fernandes, with the Portuguese star scoring the winner from the penalty spot after Marcus Rashford was ruled to have been fouled.

Below, Mail Sport’s JACK GAUGHAN outlines some of the things you may have missed during the clash.

Former Man United stars receive retroactive winner’s medals

Medals seem to be hard to come by at Old Trafford this season, but 20 minutes before kick-off a nice gesture came as players of the past were recognized for their contribution to title victories.

Nineteen former players from 1952 to 1975 have been found to have earned the retroactive league winners’ silverware after the EFL relaxed rules on the number of appearances required to meet the threshold.

David Gaskell and David Sadler had already received their medals earlier this month, with a further thirteen receiving those honors on the field ahead of the game at Nottingham Forest.

Ian McShane, son of 1952 First Division winner Harry, accepted the medal on his father’s behalf. Busby Babe Geoff Bent’s family was on hand to collect theirs from Sir Alex Ferguson, with Willie Morgan and wife Kay in attendance.

Thousands of Man United fans protest at the sit-in Glazer family

A few thousand United supporters then remained in their seats for a sit-in protest against the Glazer family as a long-running takeover continues.

More and more people flocked to the tunnel area to gather close to the stadium’s singing section – aided over the safety barriers by stewards – with most of their anger directed at Joel Glazer.

Forest hoped to beat Premier League rivals Harwood-Bellis

Forest emerge as front-runners to bring in Taylor Harwood-Bellis from Manchester City.

The England Under-21 captain, who has not played competitively since last month’s European Championship final, is followed by a host of Premier League and Championship clubs.

City are open to selling the central defender after a strong season on loan at Burnley, where they secured a return to the top tier under Vincent Kompany.

Forest wants to steal a march in pursuit of Harwood-Bellis, which is valued at around £15 million.

Fulham and West Ham United are among those who have shown interest in the City Academy graduate over the summer, with Leeds United and Leicester City also taking an interest.

Freedman on hand as Crystal Palace pursue a deal with Henderson

Dougie Freedman, Crystal Palace’s director of football, sat in the executive box as they finalized a deal for goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Henderson is expected to travel south Saturday night for a Sunday medical, with the two clubs discussing terms of a deal.

Manchester United’s phone app struggles with Forest’s quick start

United’s phone app couldn’t keep up with the club’s disastrous start.

The kick-off push notification came as Taiwo Awoniyi sauntered in to give Forest an early lead and by the time the app had notified fans of that goal, Willy Boly scored a second.

Man United are recovering from their slowest Premier League start

The three minutes and 47 seconds it took Forest to go clear twice is the first United have ever trailed by that margin in Premier League history.

Rashford’s return on the left flank bolsters Man United’s attack

Erik ten Hag stressed that United’s defeat at Spurs was the result of a lack of running ability – and more relevantly, a lack of defensive intensity in his attacking trio. For this he chose Anthony Martial.

Martial’s inclusion pushed Marcus Rashford to the left side, his preferred position, and United threatened more for that switch.

Rashford’s straight run opened up Forest and contributed to Christian Eriksen’s goal. Rashford’s assist was his 38th in the league, passing Cristiano Ronaldo and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
