THE NOTEBOOK: Kane’s options include Pochettino reunion and Spurs step up bid to land Nagelsmann

Tottenham Hotspur recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Manchester United in a thrilling Premier League match on Thursday.

Jadon Sancho put United ahead after just seven minutes when he charged in from the left and fired a low right foot shot into the far corner. Rashford made it 2-0 just before half-time when he hit a long ball from Bruno Fernandes, outplayed Eric Dier and shot past Forster.

Tottenham fullback Pedro Porro got the hosts back in the game when he hooked a shot past keeper David De Gea in the 56th minute after Harry Kane’s attempt was blocked.

The goal lifted Spurs and they created several more chances before Son Heung-min swept home a cross from Kane in the 79th minute to save a point under interim head coach Ryan Mason.

Harry Kane’s future is unclear as Manchester United prepare an attack on the England captain

Kane’s options include reunion with Pochettino

Daniel Levy’s attempts to prevent Harry Kane from joining Manchester United this summer will be complicated by Chelsea’s impending appointment of Mauricio Pochettino.

Kane’s future at Tottenham Hotspur is unclear as United prepare to attack the England captain as he enters the final year of his contract. Kane would certainly consider a move to Old Trafford.

But Spurs chairman Levy’s determination to keep him is a major hurdle for United.

Spurs value Kane at £100 million but could be tempted to accept less from an overseas club.

However, Pochettino’s arrival at Stamford Bridge would complicate Tottenham’s attempts to retain Kane.

Pochettino and Kane grew closer at Spurs and the Argentine would jump at the chance to work with Kane again.

The chances of Levy selling Kane to Chelsea seem slim. Still, it has not gone unnoticed at Spurs that Pochettino’s return to the Premier League plays into Kane’s hands. Can you sell him to United for less than £100 million this summer or see him join Chelsea next year for nothing? When it comes down to it, would Spurs legend Kane even consider a move to West London? Is Levy ready to take that chance?

Salary increases for United stars

Manchester United players will receive net wage increases of up to 20 per cent if they seal a return to the Champions League.

Several of the club’s recent signings will see their wages rise if United finish in the top four, and those whose wages were cut last summer will also receive a pay rise.

Quiet night for Richarlison

Interim Spurs boss Ryan Mason handed Richarlison only his 10th league start for the club.

But the Brazilian made just 26 touches in his 61 minutes on the pitch and the £60 million man’s wait for a first league goal for Spurs continues.

Owners feel the heat

We want Levy out,” the Tottenham fans chanted in the 54th minute.

“We want Glazers out,” the United supporters bellowed a minute later.

All together now…

Mason was a popular choice

Ryan Mason’s second spell as caretaker in charge of Tottenham started on Thursday night – and not a moment too soon for a group of the club’s older players.

After Antonio Conte’s departure was finally confirmed in March, there was confusion and bewilderment within parts of the playing staff when the club appointed the Italian’s No. 2 Cristian Stellini as acting head coach in place of Mason.

What’s the point of firing a manager and putting his assistant in charge? Absolutely nothing has changed,” said a source close to the playing team.

Mason was the choice of a number of players to take over after Conte’s sacking.

Likewise, Mason wanted the chance and there was concern earlier this week after Stellini was finally sacked over whether the former Spurs midfielder would even accept the offer after initially being overlooked.

After the club’s final deviation in the first half, Mason probably wished he hadn’t.

Spurs step up bid to bring in Nagelsmann

Julian Nagelsmann’s decision to pull out of the race to become the next Chelsea manager has sparked optimism in Tottenham that their No. 1 target might be achievable.

There was resignation among the Spurs that the German preferred the job at Stamford Bridge.

But Nagelsmann’s decision to pull out of the process has led the north London club to redouble their efforts to appoint a manager they feared was out of reach.
