The casting director behind 2004 rom-com The Notebook has revealed he cried when he discovered Oscar-nominated actors Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling.

Matthew Barry appeared on Today Extra on Wednesday morning to discuss his role in the casting of Gosling, 43, and McAdams, 45, in the beloved film, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

When asked about the chemistry tests, Barry said, “You can hear me crying behind the camera. It’s just one of those moments where an actress (McAdams) just walks into my office and says, “This role is mine.”

“It’s one of those rare moments where you think, oh my god, this is just incredible.”

Gosling brought the “Kenergy” to the Oscars on Sunday when he performed the nominated song “I’m Just Ken.”

The casting guru joked: ‘I pulled my hamstring, I was dancing along with everyone.’

Barry described Gosling as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood.

“It couldn’t happen to a nicer guy, Ryan Gosling is the epitome of a movie star – he’s kind, he’s generous and he’s so incredibly talented,” he said.

Gosling wore a sparkling pink suit as he oozed confidence on stage – accompanied by his Barbie co-stars and Guns N Roses guitarist Slash, 58.

He started his performance wearing sunglasses and sat in the audience next to Barbie star Margot Robbie, 33, as she giggled.

Gosling, 43, then stalked to the stage where he joined a host of tuxedo-clad backup dancers.

The iconic performance saw several other Kens from the film – Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu and Kingsley Ben-Adir – join Ryan on stage in a pink extravaganza.

Gosling lost in the Best Supporting Actor category to Oppenheimer’s Robert Downey Jr. at the 96th Academy Awards.
