The new macOS Sequoia beta has a secret serene wallpaper that turns your desktop into a hidden forest
The fifth beta of macOS Sequoia has been released to developers, and while we’re digging around for potential new changes, we’ve already stumbled across this small but nice addition. A new forest-themed wallpaper called Sequoia Sunrise has been added to macOS 15, but you can’t set it as your desktop background just yet – at least not through the official method.
By this we mean that the wallpaper is not selectable in the Settings menu, but is tucked away in system files. This was noticed by Mr. Macintoshwho also pointed out the fun retro Mac wallpapers that appeared in the macOS 15 beta a while back (which required jumping through a few hoops to access).
According to MacRumorsTo get the forest wallpaper, you need to go to the System/Library/Desktop Pictures/.wallpapers folder, where it is hidden – literally. This means it is a hidden file, so you need to click Shift + Command + Period the seeing.
A serene teaser while we wait

Please note that not everyone running the fifth dev beta of macOS Sequoia will see the wallpaper after installing the update, so we can’t guarantee that you’ll see the wallpaper yet.
The image is quite calming and serene, and gives off a fantasy vibe. It’s nice to see more nods to the Sequoia forest and its green surroundings on the Mac as we prepare for the public release of macOS Sequoia later in 2024.

As with the retro wallpapers, Mr Macintosh has posted a high-quality screenshot of the Sequoia Sunrise on his site if you’d like to take a quick look. The new wallpaper isn’t a huge change, of course, but it’s still nice to see that even a small tweak is in the pipeline as we wait for the bigger features in macOS 15 like Apple Intelligence and iPhone Mirroring.
