The new Fitbit app is rolling out now – here are the 5 biggest changes

Following last month’s revelation, Google is currently rolling out its redesigned Fitbit app after revamping the user interface to make it easier to use. Additionally, five new features have been added that we have never seen before.

First, the company improved the communication between your phone’s sensors and Fitbit, giving users the ability to track walks, runs, or hikes simply by using the app. You do not have to wear a Google Pixel Watch or any type of laptop. All you have to do, according to the announcement, involves connecting your smartphone to Fitbit. It will automatically start tracking the steps or any exercise you’re doing right now, right in the Today tab.

Speaking of which, the Today tab now gives users a way to customize the goals they want to work on for a given day. For example, you may want to focus on managing your stress or getting better sleep. The company says users will need to tap the Edit button at the top and then place both lenses into their own widget. This way you can track your progress.

Find workouts

To help people find their next workout, Google has added a new Coach tab on Fitbit. There, users can search for exercises based on their “type, duration, equipment required, instructor,” among other metrics. If you want to train your entire body, the app may suggest interval training with weights or calisthenics. Or if you’re training a specific area, like your core, it’ll recommend strength training with kettlebells.

Free workouts will be available. However, Fitbit Premium subscribers will have access to even more content, including HIIT (high-intensity interval training) and dance cardio classes.

The latest health update is revamped charts that will display the results of your wellness journey in an easy-to-understand format. You can view specific metrics like your sleep quality or your “active zone minutes.” Additionally, it will highlight the unique patterns it detects to help you “make sense of your health.”

Availability

Along with all the wellness features, Google has tweaked Fitbit’s privacy controls to, as you’ll probably have guessed at this point, make them easier to use. Managing your data has been simplified so you don’t have to navigate a maze of menus just to make a change. Detailed instructions on the new way to control your data are available on the Fitbit help site.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the patch when it arrives on your device. It’s unclear if the release is global or if only a few countries will get it. We have contacted Google to request clarification. This story will be updated later.
