The NBA is ‘reviewing’ TNT Sports’ $1.8billion media-rights offer after the cable network matched the league’s agreement with Amazon from earlier this month

The NBA is reconsidering its $1.8 billion media rights offer to TNT Sports, similar to the deal the company struck with Amazon Prime earlier this month.

TNT Sports announced earlier Monday that it plans to match one of the offers accepted by the NBA. The league confirmed receipt of the contract.

“We have received the proposal from WBD and are in the process of reviewing it,” an NBA spokesperson told DailyMail.com

The NBA has the right to reject TNT’s matching offer and stay with Amazon Prime

Representatives for TNT Sports have not yet responded to a request for comment from DailyMail.com.

The new media rights deal with the NBA begins next season and has a term of 11 years.

With TNT Sports now matching Amazon Prime’s offering, the popular pre-game show, “Inside the NBA,” starring basketball legends Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, has a chance to continue airing beyond this upcoming season.

With this round of media rights deals, the NBA has expanded its influence in the broadcasting world. A contract extension with ESPN has been signed, and agreements with NBC and Amazon for the next 11 years, worth approximately $76 billion.

These changes are being made without completely sidelining TNT Sports, which has exclusive rights to many of the games the NBA has sold through the end of this season.

For example, the popular In-Season Tournament was broadcast in the United States on TNT and ESPN. Now those competitions are reportedly moving exclusively to Amazon, according to The Athletic.

TNT is also currently negotiating a media rights deal with professional wrestling promotion All Elite Wrestling, the second largest promotion in America after WWE.

AEW was valued at $2 billion by Forbes earlier this year.
