The most searched for sex position in America is one you’ve probably never heard of.
Sex toy review platform Bedbible analyzed data from Google Trends to find out which X-rated acrobatics people were Googling in each state — and the results may be surprising to fans of the standard “missionary” and “cowgirl” positions.
According to the new study, the ‘pretzel’ ranked first in fourteen states.
Residents of Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Utah and West Virginia were intrigued by the situation, which sounds more complicated than it is.

The ‘pretzel’ took first place in 14 states, including Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana
The move that attracted interest in Alabama, Maine, and Rhode Island was the “eagle” position
To perform the move, one partner must lie on their side while the other straddles their lower leg and holds their upper leg up as he penetrates it.
The position not only allows for deeper penetration, but also ensures strong eye contact and improved intimacy.
Second in the rankings was the “speed bump” thanks to searches in Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin.
The maneuver is similar to doggy style, but instead of the receiving partner being on all fours, they lie on their stomach with a pillow under their hips to create the “speed bump.”
The angle is a great option for couples who want to stimulate the G-spot.
Next was the ‘Eiffel Tower’ – a three-person position in which one partner gets down on all fours to form the ‘base’ of the tower.
That person performs oral sex on the partner in front of him while being penetrated from behind by his second partner. The external partners give a high-five above the other to complete the tower.
Connecticut, Delaware, Oregon and Wyoming were the four states that searched for this sex position the most.
Meanwhile, California, New York, and Virginia all favored “Cupid’s Arrow,” a version of missionary sex.
Georgia residents used Google to research the classic ‘spoon position’
The “lotus” – a modified version of the cowgirl – was a favorite search in Montana and New Hampshire
The most sought-after position in Missouri, Vermont and Washington was the “wheelbarrow,” an acrobatic maneuver not for the non-athletic.
The penetrating person lies on their back while the other person lies on top, resting on their elbows and keeping their legs together between their partner’s.
Another missionary-style movement that attracted interest in Alabama, Maine, and Rhode Island was the “eagle” position.
One partner lies down with their legs open – eagle spread – while the other penetrates them.
Residents of Maryland, Pennsylvania and South Dakota were equally aroused by the “piledriver,” an advanced sex move that requires both flexibility and strength.
One partner lies on the floor with their legs above their head and their lower back off the ground. The other person then squats down and penetrates them from above.
The movement is also known as the “butter churner,” the term searched for in Arizona and Illinois.
The most Googled position in Missouri, Vermont and Washington was the “wheelbarrow,” another acrobatic maneuver not for the non-athletic.
This move requires the penetrating partner to stand behind the other person and lift their legs, while the recipient uses their arms to hold themselves up as if they were a wheelbarrow.
Residents of Florida and Ohio were intrigued by the “corkscrew.”
The position starts with one person on his back and the other above him in a missionary position.
The receiving partner then closes his legs and turns his waist so that his knees are to the sides.
The “lotus” – a modified version of the cowgirl – was a favorite search in Montana and New Hampshire.
The penetrating partner sits while the recipient faces him and wraps his legs around him while rocking back and forth.
South Carolina residents were looking for the “butterfly,” a position in which the recipient lies on their back on the edge of a bed while their partner stands to penetrate them.
Hawaii’s favorite sex position was the ‘jackhammer’, a more aggressive version of doggy style.
The penetration partner holds the receiver upside down and spreads his legs to resemble the handles of a jackhammer as he goes in.
Michigan residents are perhaps the purest at heart, with the traditional “missionary” position being their main search choice.
In New Jersey, there has been interest in the “prone position,” which requires the receiving partner to lie flat on their stomach while being penetrated from behind.
The “sniper” – an oral sex position – caught the attention of people in North Carolina, where it was the most searched for move.
It is a fairly simple position in which the giver lies on his stomach instead of his knees during oral sex.
Georgia residents used Google to research the classic “spoon position,” in which both partners lie on one side, facing the same direction, while having sex.
Finally, Alaskans may be curious about domination through their frequent searches for the position of the ‘triceratops’.
The recipient bends over with his stomach parallel to the floor while his partner holds his arms at the side of his body and penetrates them from behind.
An expert from Bedbible noted that it’s ‘important to experiment’ and try new positions to ‘keep the spark alive in the bedroom’.
“With so many people, it can be challenging to know which positions to try and whether they will work for you,” the spokesperson explained.
‘If you can do research in advance, you can experiment a lot more comfortably. It’s also important to remember that trial and error should be fun with a partner, and not so much of a worry about getting it right.
“This study provides an exciting insight into which states are searching for which positions the most, giving us a strong indication that America is extremely creative and exciting in the bedroom, with many states looking for completely different positions.”
