Revealed: The most popular day to be born, according to official stats… so how common is YOUR birthday?

  • September 27 is the most common day to be born, according to new ONS data
  • Boxing Day is the least common, followed by Christmas Day and New Year’s Day
  • September sees the most births, making up four of the five most popular days

September 27 is the most common birthday in England and Wales, official figures have suggested.

Meanwhile, Boxing Day is at the other end of the scale, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The ONS has now crunched the fascinating data into an interactive graph, allowing readers to see how common their birthday is. MailOnline app users can use it by clicking here.

And October 1 and September 23 round out the most popular birthdays, coming in joint fourth with 1,979 births each year.

An interactive map shows how many live births there are on average each day.

The average is taken from between 2001 and 2021.

Boxing Day is the least common day to be born, with just 1,345 births recorded each year.

And it seems there is a theme of less birthdays falling over the festive period.

September 27 is the most common birthday while Boxing Day is the least common, with just 1,345 births recorded each year

Christmas Day is second the second least common day to be born with 1,416 and New Year’s Day came in third with 1,563.

December 27 and 28 round out the top five least common birthdays, with 1,650 and 1,722 births each day respectively.

And interestingly, just missing out on the top five is April Fool’s Day (April 1), which sees 1,722 births each year.

This is much less than every other day of April, with the closest being 1,748 births each year on April 13.
