The most deluxe edition of The Hobbit costs $850, but it might be worth it

The Folio Society has teamed up with Alan Lee, one of the key concept artists for the films The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, to produce a beautifully illustrated version of JRR Tolkien’s groundbreaking work. The Hobbit. This luxurious version of The Hobbit features 28 of Lee’s original color illustrations and is currently for sale The Folio Society for $850. There are only 1,000 of these books available.

The first run of The Lord of the Rings printed by the Folio Society took just 36 hours, so you’ll need to be quick if you want to make this copy part of your collection.

In addition to the various illustrations scattered throughout the pages, The Folio Society’s version of The Hobbit includes many of the nice features you’d expect from a book costing $850, such as a quarter-bound leather cover, silver-plated page edges, and a slipcase containing a fold-out map box containing a copy of Thror’s Map and a Map of the Wilderland. Alan Lee signed every copy of the book for the first edition.

If you’re shy of a few dragon treasures and prefer a Tolkien print that’s a little more budget-conscious, it’s worth noting that The Folio Society has already produced deluxe versions of The Silmarillion, The Lord of the Ringsand of course, The Hobbit. These prints feature black and white woodcut style illustrations and covers you won’t find anywhere else.
