A woman was left reeling after discovering a ‘creepy’ note stuck to the window of an abandoned house in rural Australia.
The stockbroker came across the vacant house while out for a walk and decided to take a look inside because of its state of disrepair.
A note taped to one of the windows simply said: “Dining out,” along with a mobile number that has now been disconnected.
The desolate property was overgrown with weeds, and bits and pieces of rubbish and loose wrappings were scattered across the garden.
“This house has been abandoned for at least two years,” the woman said in an X after.
‘There are so many empty houses in Australia during a housing crisis.’

Many speculated as to why the owner never returned, while some claimed it appeared to be the work of a builder who never finished the construction.
“Someone should do a welfare check,” someone suggested.
‘Did the owner face foul play? A friend’s father went missing and was never seen or heard from again. It happens.’
A few Australians were quick to share their experiences with the ongoing rental crisis and their attempts to navigate the new housing market.
“I tried to get our old house cheaply on the rental market, but because of the interest rate increase we have to sell,” said one woman.
“I can’t afford it anymore.”
“It’s outrageous that all these houses are being taken out of stock,” said another woman.
“Across Australia there are so many homes in total darkness – not to mention the thousands of ‘holiday homes’ that are empty 95 per cent of the time,” a third added.
But others argued that what an owner decided to do with their property was no one else’s business.
“Mind your business,” one person wrote simply.
“It’s their house, they can do whatever they want with it,” said another.
