The Matildas: Why the soccer team’s extraordinary success at the Women’s World Cup is tearing couples apart
Matildas’ World Cup success sparks relationship problems after several female fan boyfriends say women’s football will never be viewed the same as men’s football.
A diehard female Matildas fan caused a storm on social media this week when she posted on Facebook that she was upset that her boyfriend was not supporting the female Australian soccer team – and was promptly urged to dump him.
‘I’ve found quite an ick in my partner. I enjoyed watching the Tillies this World Cup. But he makes comments like, “Women’s sports don’t make money or get sponsors,” she wrote.
“He said it will never be the same as men’s sport. Girls obviously hit it off in sports and his manhood is so fragile he can’t acknowledge it,” she added.
Fellow social media users were quick to note that this behavior was a huge red flag and begged her to put some time into the relationship.

‘I? More like misogyny, don’t accept that for the sake of you or feminism,” one person wrote, while another added, “Ew, give him the movie.”
“More and more women are abandoning men because of things like this and I’m all for that,” a third person chimed in.
Meanwhile, another female fan said she was fed up with her husband after he made “sexist comments about women’s football.”
