The Masters: Jon Rahm predicted winning at Augusta a decade ago

Jon Rahm predicted winning The Masters a decade ago on a fortune cookie, as his 2013 Tweet resurfaces after Augusta’s glory

Masters champion Jon Rahm said he would win the major 10 years ago after opening a fortune cookie.

The Spaniard, who claimed the Green Jacket on Sunday after a four-shot victory at Augusta National, tweeted back in 2013 and it has now resurfaced.

The post on November 8, 2013 read, “I’m going to win The Masters!”

The caption accompanied a photo of a fortune cookie that read, “Your talents will be recognized and rewarded appropriately.”

Rahm became the first European Masters champion in six years with a score of 12-under.

“I thought eight was an important birdie. I didn’t expect that bogey on nine. Phil [Mickelson] and Jordan [Spieth] we made birdies and finished strong, so making sure I didn’t put myself in a difficult position in 10 and 11 was key,” he said of his final round at Butler Cabin.

“It’s not really one moment, but if I had to pick one, that perfect draw on 13 would be the beginning.”

The Spaniard took victory on what would have been Seve Ballesteros’ 66th birthday.

Speaking about Spain’s history with The Masters, Rahm added: ‘I like to see history repeat itself. My first start was the year Sergio [Garcia] won, and I think Spaniards like to win on Easter Sunday, so Mr. Chairman, you know what to do for me and keep it on Easter Sunday.

“I wasn’t sure how it would come to me until my third shot on the green at 18.

“The history of the game is a big part of why I play. Seve [who would have been 66 today] be one of them. If it hadn’t been for that Ryder Cup [at Valderrama, when Seve was European captain] in ’97 my dad and I talk about it all the time, we don’t know where I’d be.

“For me to pull it off on the 40th anniversary of his win, his birthday, on Easter Sunday, it’s incredibly meaningful.

“To cap it off with an unusual par, very much a Seve par, in a non-purposeful way that was a testament to him. I know he pulled for me today. It was a great Sunday!’
