The Israeli quantum software company spoke to 500 US-based professionals at companies with 100 or more employees and across industries.

It turned out that the sectors that rank highest for quantum investments are the financial sector, where 87% have started investing, the accounting sector where 86% have started, and the MedTech category with 83% who have started.

What does the future bring?

Nearly all (94%) of the total research group said that quantum will ultimately drive their organization’s day-to-day decision-making on issues such as budgeting, forecasting, staffing and strategy.

That share rose to 97% for survey participants in the financial sector. In fact, nearly half (49%) of financial industry respondents said quantum will support their companies’ decision-making by the end of 2022.

A quarter of companies across all industries said quantum computing technology is already involved in their decision-making.

Looking ahead, nearly three-quarters (72%) of companies surveyed said quantum computing will play a role in their day-to-day decision-making within five years.

The research also found that hiring staff is already supporting this quantum transition.

The majority (86%) of all organizations surveyed said they are currently hiring quantum computing talent, which rose to 91% for respondents in the financial sector.

Looking ahead, 93% of all respondents expect there will be a “tidal wave” of demand for people – including developers – with quantum skills, while 83% of respondents from high-tech fields said quantum computing should be incorporated into science, technology, engineering and math (VOICE).

The rise of quantum computing may not be all sunshine and roses.

The vast majority (92%) of survey participants think quantum computers will be able to crack current encryption technology within three years, while 92% said quantum computing is “important to US national security”.
